New London does not experience Hospital Days as a single event. In 2026, it works more like a temporary operating schedule for the town.
The centennial celebration occupies the Town Green, changes the usual Friday programming pattern, concentrates Saturday activities into a tight sequence, pauses another hospital fundraiser and overlaps with the opening of a major regional fair. The hospital’s mission effectively moves from County Road to Main Street for three days.
That is the useful way to read New London NH Hospital Days 2026. The question is not simply what has been scheduled. It is how the schedule reorganizes the town around it.
The confirmed dates: Thursday, July 30 through Saturday, August 1, 2026. The 100th annual parade begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
The centennial starts before the event does
The official celebration lasts three days, but its lead-in extends through July.
New London Hospital is displaying Hospital Days memorabilia in a Memory Lane Exhibit throughout the month. The exhibit, presented by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, will also appear in a central location during Hospital Days.
That month-long presence matters. It shifts the anniversary from a weekend attraction into a continuing local story. Residents encounter the history at the hospital before the Town Green becomes the center of activity.
The history begins in August 1924, when the fundraiser was called Tag Day. Supporters sold tags to raise money for the hospital. A published history of New London reports that the occasion had become an important part of the summer calendar by 1927 and one of the hospital’s major financial supports by 1950.
The format has changed repeatedly, but the underlying mechanism has remained consistent: local organizations, businesses and residents align their efforts around the hospital for a defined period each summer.
Friday’s calendar reveals the shift
One of the clearest signs appears in the Town of New London’s regular concert schedule.
The municipal calendar lists Friday concerts at the Mary Haddad Bandstand every week from June 26 through July 24. The series then skips Friday, July 31, during Hospital Days, and resumes August 7.
New London Hospital separately lists Music on the Green among the centennial additions. The town has not announced that Hospital Days formally canceled or replaced a regular concert, so that conclusion should not be overstated. The calendar pattern still shows how the week works: the usual Friday civic slot gives way to the centennial program.
The same shift is visible in the hospital’s fundraising calendar. New London Hospital is pausing its Annual Benefit in 2026 so it can focus attention on the 100th Hospital Days.
That decision gives the anniversary organizational weight. Hospital Days is not being added to a crowded schedule. Other established programming is yielding space to it.
Saturday is a sequence, not a collection of activities
Residents planning Saturday should think in terms of timing. Two confirmed events follow each other closely on the Town Green.

The parade theme is “A Century of Celebration.” Entries can interpret different decades through floats, clothing and walking groups. Recognition is planned for creative, theme-based and colorful entries. Parade submissions are requested by Friday, July 17 through the official parade page.
Returning Hospital Days activities include the Jewelry Sale, Teddy Bear Clinic and Dunk Stool. New centennial programming includes Wildlife Encounters, Movie Night and Music on the Green.
Movie Night will feature “The Goonies” on the Town Green. It is free, and attendees are invited to bring chairs and blankets. Whipple Hall is the weather backup. As of July 11, the date and start time have not been published.
That distinction between confirmed and pending information is important. The event page has not yet released a complete daily schedule, midway hours, food schedule, vendor list or Music on the Green performance details. A useful plan today should leave room for the official timetable rather than filling gaps with prior-year assumptions.
The tradition has been deliberately redesigned
Longtime residents may remember a different version of Hospital Days. Some of those differences reflect a formal reset rather than a temporary scheduling choice.
After a two-year pandemic pause, New London Hospital reorganized and rebranded Hospital Days in 2023. Event proceeds shifted from the unrestricted Annual Fund toward a highlighted fundraising priority. The associated triathlon was discontinued because of rising costs and declining participation.
There is no Hospital Days triathlon scheduled for 2026.
The current centennial fundraising language is broader than the program-specific language used in some prior years. New London Hospital says 2026 proceeds will support programs and initiatives that strengthen care and services for patients and families served by New London Hospital and Newport Health Center. The official event page says every dollar raised stays local, but it has not named a narrower 2026 beneficiary.
The prior year provides useful scale without predicting the centennial total. In 2025, the 99th Hospital Days raised $105,000, including a $50,000 matching gift from the Burkehaven Family Foundation. Those funds supported Patient and Family Community Care Initiatives providing food, fresh produce, personal hygiene products and other essentials. Hospital Days and the Annual Benefit together generated more than $485,000 in 2025.
The centennial therefore carries two kinds of significance. It preserves a public summer tradition while operating as a substantial fundraising platform for regional care.
For three days, the hospital’s mission moves downtown
New London Hospital sits at 273 County Road. It is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital serving 15 communities. Hospital Days brings that regional mission into New London’s traditional civic center through the Town Green, Main Street programming and the parade.
The sponsor roster shows how widely the event reaches across the local business network. Participants include Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Cushman Lumber, Mascoma Bank, Mount Sunapee Resort, Sunapee Cove, Newton-Bartlett, Sugar River Bank and the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce.
Other named supporters include Chadwick Funeral Service, Jake’s Market and Deli, ECHO Communications, Blue Loon, Bob’s Beacon Marina, Marshall’s Garage, Rocky’s Ace Hardware and The Refinery Restaurant & Market.
Those names are more than a sponsor list. They show how Hospital Days gathers financial institutions, retailers, service businesses, hospitality organizations and regional attractions around one civic project. The Town Green becomes the point where those separate parts of the local economy become visible together.
That is why the event feels larger than its three-day duration. Preparation begins earlier, business participation extends beyond the hospital and the public program occupies spaces normally used for other parts of town life.
August 1 puts New London on two regional clocks
The Hospital Days parade begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1. At the same time, the 93rd Annual League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair opens at Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury.
The Craftsmen’s Fair runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through August 9. The League reports that the nine-day event attracts more than 20,000 visitors.
No official source has published a congestion forecast for Hospital Days. The simultaneous 10:00 a.m. starts still create a practical scheduling choice for anyone hoping to attend both events on opening day. Decide which comes first and allow more time between New London and Mount Sunapee than an ordinary Saturday plan might require.
The same caution applies downtown. Historical town records show that Main Street has closed for past Hospital Days parades and that certain side streets were kept open for traffic and emergency access. Those records do not establish the 2026 plan. Current road closures, parking rules and shuttle details have not yet been posted.
What residents can plan now
The centennial schedule is incomplete, but several decisions can be made with confidence:
- Reserve July 30 through August 1 for the three-day celebration.
- Treat Saturday morning as a continuous Town Green block, beginning with Wildlife Encounters at 9:00 a.m. and the parade at 10:00 a.m.
- Check the official Hospital Days page before leaving for Movie Night, Music on the Green or other activities without published times.
- Do not plan around a triathlon. It is no longer part of the event.
- If the Craftsmen’s Fair is also on your August 1 list, choose your first stop before Saturday morning.
- Wait for current town or police notices before relying on any parking location or parade detour used in a previous year.
A century-old tradition during a period of new investment
The 100th Hospital Days arrives while New London Hospital is making a major current investment on County Road.
In June 2026, the hospital began initial construction on an approximately 40,000-square-foot Surgical Care Center. Plans call for four operating rooms, a 22-bed post-anesthesia unit and expanded sterile processing. The center is scheduled to open in fall 2028. The hospital says existing surgical and endoscopy services will continue without interruption during construction.
That timing gives the centennial a clear connection between past and present. Hospital Days began as a direct community fundraising effort in 1924. One hundred annual celebrations later, the institution it supports is still changing, investing and planning for regional care.
New London changes with it for one concentrated week. The regular Friday rhythm pauses. Saturday morning becomes a shared sequence. Businesses and civic organizations gather downtown. Another hospital fundraiser steps aside. A major regional fair starts on the same morning.
That is the real function of Hospital Days at 100. It gives New London a common clock.
